I finally cured some Studio by Sculpey clay yesterday and did the strength test. The clay was very strong when bent and didn’t break until it was almost bent completely in half. It didn’t crack like Premo would but it sort of tore a little. It didn’t crumble when it was bent either like some brands have a tendency to do. I have not yet tried the clay over glass but I suspect it will act like most of the clays and have a tendency to break if it is put over a sharp bend. Adding polymer clay to glass is a tricky thing, it can depend on the temperature as glass moves at certain temperatures. I know this from experience from having traveled to art shows across the country with my artwork and experiencing different climates. I have pounds of broken clay that cracked when overlaid on glass. Sometimes you can have great results and sometimes not so I recommend experimenting and seeing what works best for you with the clay brand of your choice.
Make sure to check back on Friday for a new Episode of Polymer Clay Podcast. We will be discussing dye ink this week. Enjoy!
