As you may know the Polymer Clay Artists Guild of Etsy has a monthly challenge and this month the theme was masks. Here is another mask I made for the challenge. We will be opening up the voting in a few days so make sure to head over and vote for your favorite mask. Here is my entry which I call the Sun Goddess. This Friday will be the demo on Polymer Clay TV and we show how to get started making a mask. Enjoy!

Please take a moment, if you haven’t already, to answer the following question. It will really help us to decide the direction for our future. We are in development right now for a new line of polymer clay stamps, as well as transfer sheets, web seminars, and live interviews with successful polymer clay artists. Our audience is important to us- and we realize that some of you won’t be interested in added content, but many of you will- so here’s the question- Thanks so much for helping!
Hope everyone had a nice weekend. As you can see Polymer Clay Productions website has had a little face lift. We are constantly changing, growing and updating, so expect some new things around here. This Friday is a new videocast of Polymer Clay TV so make sure to come back for the demo on creating masks. There are so many different styles of masks you can create. Heather of Craft Gossip has posted some of the photos of masks she found on Flickr, they are all very cool. The PCAGOE will start voting for the monthly challenge around October 26th and this month the theme just happens to be masks. Make sure to check out the entries and get your vote in, you could win some cool handmade prizes. Speaking of prizes, we just received an autographed copy of Judy Belchers DVD and book, stay tuned to see how you can win one. We are also interviewing Judy for an upcoming Polymer Clay Podcast so stay tuned for that as well. Judy is a very talented polymer clay artist and I am looking forward to talking with her.
Just a few more days to get your entries in for The Call For Creativity, just load your photo up in the forum to the Call For Creativity post and you will be entered. Good luck!

This week, in preparation for the American holiday of Halloween on the 31st, we decided to explore the making of masks from clay. Remember to make them light and thin if you want to wear them! You can use all clay, or embellishments like scrapbooking brads or metal parts, glitter, metal leaf, Jones Tones foils, crystals and stones, anything you want! Here’s a tip- buy a simple plastic mask to use as a template, that way your eye holes will be in the right spot.
Enjoy, and come back next week for the video!
Well tomorrow is Friday and this week we have a new episode of Polymer Clay Podcast releasing and we talk about making masks. In the USA we celebrate Halloween at the end of October so we thought it would be a good time to talk about creating masks from polymer clay. There are so many different styles you can create, the sky is the limit. We also do some reviews of the latest issues of some of the magazines by Kalmbach Publishing. We review Bead & Button, Art Jewelry and Bead Style. There are so many projects that can be adapted to using polymer clay, so you might want to look at the projects in the magazines differently and think how you could use polymer clay to create the same project that they might have used stones or some other material. We encourage you to think outside the box and experiment.
Don’t forget that the Call For Creativity deadline is October 28th, 2007, so get your photos uploaded to the forum post or to our Flickr account to be entered. There will be some great prizes for the winners. Good luck!
I am off to babysit my niece this weekend while my sister and brother in law celebrate their anniversary out of town. I am hoping to get some claying time in with my niece Rachel who just loves working with the clay. I think you should encourage your kids to help you make their masks and costumes this year as it is such a blast and no one will have the same costume as them. Polymer clay is non toxic and great for kids and of course is extremely versatile. Happy Claying and see you tomorrow!
