Doesn’t that sound like a new dance move? Well, Christi’s hands certainly dance when she teaches. Enjoy this week’s video, on the video page! We had so much fun getting to know Christi better at the Orlando Clay Fandango this year. She is a great teacher with fun stories and loads of information.
What is Steampunk? It’s a style of art that is a little difficult to nail down because it has been influenced by many things. A general definition is that it combines Victorian style with an industrialization that didn’t happen until a later period in history. So steampunk “things” tend to be Victorian in style with a more-modern-than-would-have-been-possible during Victorian times item- such as a computer keyboard made out of wood and brass, a wheelchair that is steam-powered (think about the one in the movie Wild Wild West, which is a modern mainstreamed movie with some steampunk influence) and think of the writings of Jules Verne- with modern appliances and machines in a non-modern world. Steampunk sensibilities lead one to believe that anything could be possible. So when watching Christi make this bunny, I was thinking that with it’s little wind-up key, it might have been created by an Alchemist to be his pet- made of clay, with gears inside to make him hop! He will never die, because he can just get wound up again when he slows down…the perfect magical pet.
