About Kira

Kira Slye is an artist, teacher, and all-around creative person. She enjoys playing the piano, reading, her 5 pets, and the sub-tropical location of her home. It took 10 years of galavanting around the countryside, including time spent living in Boston, Portland OR, and her native New York, before she and her husband Rob settled into their South Florida digs. Now a Sunday morning swim in the ocean tops their list of leisure activities.
Kira holds a degree in Art Education K-12, earned at Buffalo State College SUNY. Over the years she has made a living in many creative ways, including creating hand-made wedding invitations, painting murals, selling her jewelry and beads, and teaching jewelry and polymer clay classes locally.
Kira has been working with polymer clay since she was a kid, when her mom bought her a box of white sculpey. In college, she created a family tree for her grandparents, complete with little portrait heads of all 26 family members (at the time) out of Sculpey III. Then she joined the Western NY Polymer Clay Guild, where her friend Debbie introduced her to the world of professional grade Premo clay, and she never looked back. Now Kira works exclusively with Premo, most often mixing her own colors using translucent clay as a base and adding inks and inclusions to create faux stone looks. She has also developed great expertise with the leaf cane, which she combines with various beads to create little wreath bracelets- her best seller.
You can see Kira’s work in four places- her personal site (which she admits definitely gets neglected in favor of webmastering this one), StudioBijou, her Etsy shop, her Teaching site, and her Painting portfolio. Her jewelry brand name is Studio Bijou.
