We’ll show you our two different takes on how to embed tiny but strong rare earth magnets into your clay. I pushed mine into the clay and baked them right in, while Ilysa made impressions in the clay to fit the magnets and glued them in after baking. Either way, adding magnets to your clay is a fun new way to create an easy but strong clasp. Ours are a bit chunky because it was our first time trying out the technique, but I could see how with some practice you could make some really interesting magnetic items with your clay.
We’ve added in some other tidbits of footage from our travels this spring. Enjoy! And don’t forget to visit Polymer Clay Classroom for two full projects using magnetic clasps to make necklaces.
One more thing- be sure to come back on Sunday to view and upload pictures of this week’s bottles of hope in our Sunday guestbook.

Tomorrow there will be a new episode of Polymer Clay TV and we will be showing you how to make your own magnetic clasps. We also have an interview we did at the American Craft Council show with Karyn Kozak in Baltimore, MD. Karyn has been working with polymer clay for many years and you will probably recognize her signature teapots. Her work is so fun and colorful and her bugs are the cutest!
Don’t forget to sign up for the newsletter so you will get an invite to our 1 year anniversary party.
See you tomorrow!

Every week I am going to start featuring a different artist from the Polymer Clay Artists Guild of Etsy. There is so much talent and diversity that I really wanted to share them with you. I think you will really enjoy seeing everyones work and hopefully it will inspire you. This first feature is by Stormy Designs and she has been inspired by Christi Friesen as you can see by the photo of Taffy the dragon.
I wanted to share some photos of her work and you can see more by checking out her etsy shop at http://www.stormydesigns.etsy.com

Hope everyone had a good weekend. This Friday we have a new episode of Polymer Clay TV. In this episode we have several things to share with you. We start off with an interview with Christi Friesen and she shares a little about how she got started creating with polymer clay and some upcoming events. Christi was such a blast to talk with and we get to meet up with her again this weekend at the Orlando Clay Fandango and if there is time she will be doing a little demo with us.
Kira and I also show you how to get started with the mokume gane technique and Karen and Ann Mitchell share a little about themselves and the vest project they were creating in the Staedtler booth at CHA. It has been a total blast getting to know everyone at these events and I hope that it comes through on the show.
We have a ton more footage and will be sharing it over the next few months, so stay tuned for that. The shows will be a little longer than normal because there is so much great footage and we hope to fit most of it in.
I will be heading to Lake Yale this Friday to cover the Orlando Clay Fandango retreat and Kira will join me Friday evening. We will be there Friday and Saturday night and hope to see you there. There are still a few spaces left to attend the classes. The teachers are Christi Friesen, Maureen Carlson and Sarah Shriver and they are all such talented artists. The classes will be awesome I am sure but there are ton of other things going on there too. Check out their website to read all about the events planned. Kira and I donated some bags that they will be filling with goodies to give away to attendees, so that will be a lot of fun too. I think there is a pajama party planned and there will be vendors selling their wares. We hope you can attend but if not we will have some footage to share when we return.

We have an interesting discussion this week, now that we are home. Hear about the artists we met, the panel discussions, the Synergy Gallery, and some interesting conversations and new products. And hear about a very important upcoming development- online live video classes.
Be sure to come back next week for more video with polymer clay artists and product demos from CHA and Synergy.

Linda Peterson shows us a demo from her upcoming book, Kathleen Dustin shares her thoughts about her art, and Maureen Carlson shares information about her new line of molds which allow quick face sculpting. We really enjoyed talking with these wonderful artists and learning about themselves and their work, and we hope you enjoy it too. We also have a new episode of Polymer Clay Classroom available today.
This video is a little longer than usual, so please be patient while it downloads. Enjoy!
