They are fun to make in clay, since you can either just make a tray to catch the ashes, or if you want to burn the cone kind, you can actually embed a small tile of glass to burn it on and that way you won’t damage your clay. This is a great way to try out different surface decorations, including canework, since the whole point is just to make something pretty.
